After graduating from Queen's University Belfast, Dr Campbell undertook specialty training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Northern Ireland. During his training, he was awarded membership of both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and won a competitive Academic Clinical Fellowship at Queen's University Belfast to investigate the use of Botox ® in the treatment of overactive bladder with an internationally recognised bladder research group.
This provided the foundation for his appointment to a competitive two-year subspecialty training programme in urogynaecology with Professor Stephen Radley at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. He was the second consultant in the United Kingdom to complete subspecialty training in urogynaecology alongside training in laparoscopic urogynaecology (key-hole surgery to treat prolapse).
Dr Campbell is Lead for undergraduate gynaecology teaching in the Belfast Trust, he is actively involved in research and is a lecturer at Queen’s University Belfast. He has been invited to present his research nationally and internationally and has published numerous important articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is currently running a research study in his private clinic on the Uresta support pessary for women who experience urinary incontinence during exercise.
Urogynaecology is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynaecology that focuses on the management of women with pelvic floor disorders. As a subspecialist urogynaecologist, Dr Campbell has completed 2 years of specialist training in addition to the standard 7 years of general training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In his private clinic, Dr Campbell is qualified to offer a comprehensive range of conservative and surgical treatment options for pelvic floor problems, including Viveve, a non-surgical treatment to improve vaginal laxity, sexual function and stress incontinence.
